NOTE THE CHANGE IN THE DATES FOR THE CONTESTS - OCT 11th and OCT 25th
Do you think you have the what it takes to work on a Top Secret Project?
Would you like to work on a Tempest Theme Deck that will actually be sold by Wizards of the Coast on Magic Online?
Would you like to WIN PRIZES doing it?
Wizards of The Coast have tasked the Classic Quarter Community to create a Preconstructed Deck (Theme Deck, Intro Deck) for the upcoming Tempest release, and we thought what better way to do so than to make it a contest for our viewership. Perhaps you are asking yourself "Why would they want to make another precon, aren't the existing Tempest Theme Decks going to be used?" The answer is: yes they are. But this is no ordinary PreCon...
This PreCon will cost $29.99

A $29.99 PreCon based on this one card... the possibilities are huge! |
That's right - $29.99. Unlike the other Tempest PreCons WoTC expects us to make this decklist a bit pricier. And there is really only one over-riding rule. The Deck must use the card Living Death
There are two parts to the contest:
Part 1: Name The Deck Graveyard Shift
The reason this part has to be done first is that the materials for artistry for the digital packaging has to be finalized well in advance of the release. That's actually the reason the decklist must have Living Death in it (they need to know at least one piece of artwork to base it on), and why the name must be chosen first.
Decklist Naming: Rules and Regulations:
- There are two ways to submit a name: To submit a name and only a name, send a private message to the forum user: TPP_Naming_Contest through our forums with the subject TPP Submission. This user is controlled by me (Dangerlinto).
The Second method is to use the deck database to send along your name with the decklist for the second portion of the contest, which is outlined below. That's pretty much it.
- Because you must be able to use the forums to submit the name in a Private Message, you must register in the forums to enter the contest. If you do not use your MTGO user name as your forum name, make sure you also enter your MTGO user name in the field provided or you will not be able to claim your prize.
- There is no upper limit on the characters you can use for the name, but having a look at the other Theme Decks from Tempest should give you an idea about what looks nice on a box, and fits well in advertisements. So "The Really Cool Deck That Abuses The Graveyard" is probably not going to cut it based solely on it's length (never mind how lame it is)
- Wizards of the Coast will choose the winners based on the lists, and it is at their sole discretion.
- Obviously foul or abusive words will not be considered for the name, but they may gain you a warning or banning from the CQ site at the discretion of the administrator.
- The administrator of the the CQ site (Dangerlinto) and employees of Wizards of the Coast are ineligible for the contest. Entrants are not restricted by location.
- Entries must be marked sent before 9:00PM PST (Midnight EST), Oct 11th, 2008. Yes - that quick!
Congratulations to Raddman for winning the deck naming portion He will receive prize four (4) copies of the Graveyard Shift precon!
Part 2: The Decklist
The decklist portion of the contest will be to create a decklist for the PreCon.
Decklist Creating: Rules and Regulations:
- Submit your decklist through our deck database: In order to use our deck database, you must have a forum login (with an email address filled out in the appropriate section). The key here is to select from the tournament dropdown the "Tempest Precon Project". This will hide your deck from view from anyone, so that they can't see your submissions.
- The decklist must be 60 cards precisely - no more, no less.
- Only Tempest cards are allowed. Submissions with cards that are not from the Tempest Set (Stronghold and Exodus are not eligible) will be ruled ineligible.
- The decklist should contain at least six (6) rares, at least one of which has to be Living Death. It could contain more, and it also might possibly contain less. The composition of rares should take into consideration the value of the cards. Putting 1 Living Death and 4 Cursed Scrolls, even though it's only 5 rares, will be a quick way to have your deck dismissed.
- There is no particular limit on commons or uncommons, but like rares, if your decklist contains a bunch of Wastelands, again, it's unlikely to be chosen.
- Wizards of the Coast will choose the winners based on the list, and it is at their sole discretion.
- Entries must be marked sent before 9:00PM PST (Midnight EST), Oct 25th, 2008.
The prize for the Decklist portion will be ten (10) copies of the precon, or four (4) copies of the Precon and thirty-six (36) Tempest Boosters!
That's it! There is also a sister contest being run by our good friends on PureMTGO, so check that out as well.
So get your creative juices flowing, your thinking cap on, and good luck to all!
