Okay. Now then. WHAT IS LEGACY DOING ON AN MTGO ANNOUNCEMENT? AND BEFORE WE HAVE TEMPEST TO BUY??? Ahem. I'm, um, confused. |

Something fishy is going on.
Hell - up until a little while ago, there wasn't even art for a bunch of the cards. And there still isn't art for P3K!
I really hate when they do stuff like this. Why are we finding out about this stuff in a schedule someone posted and not given ANY explanation?

If you notice, it goes from Classic on 22nd, to Legacy on the 28, to Legacy on the 21st where the next Classic event should fall..
But they make a switch before Tempest is released, which is strange. |

If they're splitting the format at this point, that would suck. It seems like interest might be picking up, but we don't even know if we can support two events a week yet! And if they're switching over to Legacy, that would suck even more... so much for playing those Necros and Mana Crypts.

This would be the *worst* possible time for a format split, hands-down. It would absolutely destroy Online Eternal gaming. Neither format would have enough of a player base to fire anything, much less find a regular practice game.
Unless WotC is deciding to change their naming conventions, and Classic is now also going to be "Legacy Online" or something like that. Which is A) confusing, and B) would *totally* suck for purposes of this clan/website.
And if either of these things happen without a single word from Worth or *anyone* at Wizards in advance, I would find that a full-on slap in the face and a reason for total confidence loss.

I am guessing that online legacy is IPA forward and will not be a paper sync or an attempt at it. I also think that these formats (100 Sing, Pauper, And "legacy" will receive about as much support as prismatic did on v2.5.
I dont personally believe that this will have as dramatic impact on classic as suggested by some.
I agree that some communication is REQUIRED ASAP from WOTC.

If it were older blocks, could they possibly pick a name more confusing than Legacy?
Putting Legacy online makes no sense right now. Try 2012/2013 when all the blocks are out. |

Yes. The Mongeeses were kind of weak in Block due to all the relatively enormous Green dudes already available.
Yes, I may start referring to them as multiple Mongoose, or Mongeese, or EVEN MONGEESES. WEEP FOR YOUR LOST LANGUAGE! |

You're welcome. I hope you don't get fired. How would you have money to buy cobras to feed your Mongeese?

As of this morning they removed the pre-Tempest "Legacy" event but left the post-Tempest one. Is this just total incompetence, fixing one typo/mistake but not the other?

Changed the pre-Tempest "Legacy" event on Nov. 28th to Extended.
Also apparently in the 1st post the weekend dates were wrong. Nov. 28th is a Friday, so the event is now correctly listed as on the 29th.

More info, and I don't like the sound of it.
http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=1090830 "So, let's talk a bit about the Legacy format. For some of you, you may recall that there used to be an "Extended Online" format back in 2004 that was different than paper Extended due to the fact that not every expansion was available in Magic Online as in paper. The new Legacy format for magic Online will fill a somewhat similar game play and power level void. And since Legacy is a supported format in paper MTG, it makes sense for us to introduce it in MtGO at the appropriate time, which we consider to be after Shards of Alara releases. As you know, after Shards comes out, and the IPA and OTJ expansions rotate out of Extended, Legacy will still allow them to be played in a lower power level environment than Classic. This format will get a weekend PE after the Tempest set goes on sale later in year. Watch for more Classic weekend PEs in 2009 as well." Here's what I'm seeing: Classic is going to get screwed by WotC. The players with IPA aren't going to pick up the power cards to play in Classic if they don't have to. Instead, they'll just keep their collections pretty much as they are and pick up a few of whatever Legacy level cards they want to use to play. I don't think there are enough people to play Classic and O-Legacy yet. I think that Classic will be the loser of this scenario. |

Well, It was nice knowing you all. I'm sure we'll be able to keep our band of merry men together, but there is virtually no hope of ever seeing anyone new come to the format.

The only possible way this doesn't completely kill Classic is if they support Classic with more events than they do OLegacy. However, since OLegacy is the cousin of an official paper format I don't think that's very likely.
I'm going to mention this to Mike when I calm down a bit. emailing in anger has never been a strong decision on my part... |

It depends on the banned list, I guess.
If it mirrors PLegacy, then they just shot themselves in the foot. Hard. By pulling this. If it doesn't there may still be reasons to buy into some of the Classic sets. Maybe. Ugh. |
