Yup - we're back!
WoTC has another deck contest, where you the playhers get to create a Stonghold Precon.
Have a look at the rules, and post your questions here

Sweet- Looks like wotc have considered both the prizes and the content of the decks more carefully this time out. Congrats on the CQ for landing this too.
Good times. Roll on Stronghold.

I am not a
specialist of this set but Mox Diamond & Volrath's stronghold seems to be the 2 best
classic cards i think
You could find some
other interesting card like Intruder Alarm, Dream Halls, Shaman
En-Kor, Horn of Greed,
Buregeoning, Rolling Stones, Mogg Infestation, Thalakos Deceiver, Shifting
Wall and a good collection of multicolored slivers (including sliver queen).
There are some interesting cards already available in other set too : Grave Tomb
& Ensnaring Bridge.
I hope it could help
you a bit

Judging from Legacy the staples are: Vorloth Stronghold - Loam deck probably many other control, agro/control decks Mox Diamond - Loam and maybe some combo decks if Necro gets restricted Nomads and Shamans En-Cor - Cephalid breakfast Crystaline and maybe Hibernation Slivers for - CounterSLivers Anything I missed? Anything banned in Legacy from this set? WHen is Stronghold scheduled for launch? Edited by zoranc - 23 Feb 2009 at 4:27am |

Personally, I think the whole set is destined to remain dusty on the shelves.
I thikn you are all forgetting about Dream Halls, which I doubt will make a splash even after it's Vintage unrestriction months ago.
Mox Diamond is a very limited use card.
There are several cards I'd like to get in casually, but to name a couple:
Volrath's Shapeshifter (Breakfast)
Fling .
I can't imagine more fun than putting Shapeshifter out, playing Dreadnought for 1, letting it sac itself, attacking with the Shapshifter that is 12/12 trample and then flinging it for 12 more. Should be fun.

Oh yes the fling! Theoretical 2. turn kill of a competitive affinity on the draw:
1. furnace, mox, plating, jar, frogmite, frogmite 2. citadel, equip, attack (11), fling (9/2) |

I have to agree with
danger : this set seems to provide more casual than competitive
cards.
That being said, if
mox has limited use (that's true, i dont believe it could enter in any
combo deck, chrome mox or lotus petal seem to be much better), it however is a
nice new tool to play aggro loam & gueddon decks (great synergy with
crucible of worlds) that Chrome & petal couldnt help. In our current meta,
mana denial strategy is heavy played since Wasteland = diamond mox is a good
stuff to avoid to be screwed by land destruction... especially good if your deck
is land destruction oriented (geddon / devastating dream).
Volrath's Stronghold
is a sweet stuff to recover creature without drawback. I dont know if it is
really good before i tested it in the current meta, but this land is often ran
in the legacy decks (the rock, team america, aggro loam ...).
No i didnt :) The
effect is just crazy (could be played as a centerpiece of the deck i think) but
the CMC =5 ...

Yeah Dream Halls is crazy but hard to abuse in a way in which your opponent can't also abuse (by the time you have 5 mana) Also, Intruder Alarm is already online.

I can't believe nobody mentioned Hermit Druid, which is good enough to be banned in Legacy. Not sure what it will do in Classic, but the card is ridiculously powerful.

There are a few cards in Stronghold that will be very good in Classic. Mostly though I can see this as an opportunity to get something good again from Tempest. Another try at putting Wasteland in the deck and maybe something rare and exciting. Glad to see that there is more incentive to participate in this contest, but overall Stronghold is a poor Classic set and I will look forward to seeing this happen again with Exodus and potentially more sets moving forward.

Did I see that right; they're still charging $30 for these things? I thought they learned from the last pre-con that $30 price point was too expensive to match the possible cards inside.
Whoever wins this better squeeze 2 wastelands in to the mix - GOT IT?? |

No - that's just my bad reusing the caption from the Tempest one - the price is not set.

Only 1 rare in this deck can be included in any other Tempest or Stronghold theme deck (player created or otherwise)
Is there a list of the rares already used in stronghold and tempest pre-cons so we know the rares we can't use?Would be a big help , thx !

Seven? SEVEN?!?!?!
I can't believe only 7 people want to win he kind of prizes we are talking about.
There is only about 4 days left to enter the contest. I'm very seriously dissapointed in the turnout so far.
Maybe we should just hold Classic PEs for prestige and get rid of the pack prizes from Daily Events... it seems like the classic tourney going crowd, at least, has no interest in winning prizes Edited by dangerlinto - 25 Feb 2009 at 1:15pm |

I hope so - PureMTGO is up on us 28 - 7. Hey I know that they are going to get more, but 4x?
Especially as our prize is bigger than theirs (the 4 x copies of the deck are woth much, much more)
