I would really love to hav a section that listed the Decks to beat on here - now that the Meta has shored up, I think it's about time.

Who's up for this?

If this would be like The Source's "Decks to Beat" forum for Legacy, but for Classic, it would be simply awesome. Does anyone know of such a forum that exists already?

No - right now you have all the tourney data - which is actually pretty good.

But I'm looking at a thread with actual information about the decks other than their contents and tournament statistics.  For example, it would be great if the section on Ad Nauseam had a small blurb reminding people to hold Ctrl when playing Infernal Tutor so they can crack LED.  Many people don't know how to do this.  General info on the deck (how it wins, strengths, weaknesses) would be very valuable.

YES
Odissey was themed with with threshold and Mudhole gave red access to an hability that fitted thematically and normally isn't on it's pie, that's why it's rare.

I would think including information on ways for opponent's to attack the deck in question, and ways that the deck can defend against those attacks, would be helpful for sideboard builders everywhere as well.

I am in favor of this idea, though. It might spur some discussion about actual Magic games and strategy.

So let me ask again...

Who is up for this?    It won't be me -  it should be someone who plays a lot in Sanctioned events where they face a variety of top-level competition.

I think we should all do it on our respective decks, Kinda like mini primers on the decks, the key cards in match-ups and some tips on piloting the deck successfully.
for example Sick7 should write ANT
1232143 people could write oath and dredge etc.
I'd be happy to write one on Classic Gobs... Seeing as I seem to be the only one crazy enough to run it in to Oath over and over with success...

While, We are at it, Articles (however short) by someone other than Danger could be cool... would need an editor though..

I am a prolific writer of crap of all kinds. I'd happily write articles, but I am at my best talking about rogue oddball decks of my own creation that are strong (usually), fun (always) but not tourney level (ever). I doubt this site wants a column called "Casually Classic".

I do however happen to have an unpublished and in-depth article on how to build and play Dredge, which although a little out of date (there was no Bazaar, Bloodghast or Trap at the time) would serve as a "demo" of my writing.

As far as the Decks to Beat primers go, I'd love to write some and will certainly contribute to teh deck threads I build and try out. I am most experienced with fringe decks or oddball takes on typical decks. That said I have most experience playing with the following (listed in order of how well I know the deck):

Bant Survival
Dredge
Zoo
Merfolk (UG and UW type)
Eva Green and variants (minus Sink Hole obv)
Countersliver

I have a reasonably full collection as far as classic goes, and can build ALMOST all top drawer classic decks*, so could also help out with match-up testing if anyone wants to do that to help the primers.

* There are a few niche cards I skipped like : Mox Diamonds, LEDs, 2xDaze (was hoping to hold out till Masques, but crumbling fast)

I would do a deck or two if you want.  You'd have to tell me what decks though.

Any movement on this? Having trawled t'internet I cannot find a Classic equivalent of the Source's Decks to Beat/Watch forums, so I think this would be popular.

Can I suggest just adding the forum and see what happens?

I was thinking about this while reading the Classic v Legacy thread on the official boards. I reckon that starting up this section/forum would be the greatest service to Classic as a format. There is no better way to get people interested, speaking as someone who reads an hour's worth of the Source's DTB section every lunchtime. Just a thought.

I don't see why people shouldn't start writing primers. Having the section is much less important than the content. I'd say write a primer on a deck you like and do okay with and can go from there.

Agreed. The primers should be written by:
Whiffy
Athos
Sick
Prolepsis
Dunkle
Walker
Fatman

Lots of good candidates, go go go

I'll draft up a primer for the community, maybe throw in some videos, and actually play decently through them instead of failing miserably as I have been doing lately.
