Hi
I'd love to hear opinions on sideboard strats against Oath. That deck follows me around like a bad song. Even individual card choices would be great. Spawning Pit doesn't really work for me since I tend to play decks that win by tapping attackers.

Sadistic Sacrament - Oath has to pack at least 4 win cons (and not draw one) this way. Playable off a dark ritual.

+1 what sick7 said.
Aggro decks can benefit from playing Seals as they not only allow less of a chance to be discarded-opposed to holding say Instant/sorcery-, but playing one proactively dictates that they either stifle or answer it before going for Oath.
Bonus on the Seal of Cleansing for destroying Sphinx. Edited by menace13 - 08 Feb 2010 at 1:06pm |

In my RDW deck against Oath I sideboard:
- Ensnaring Bridge (can still bring it out if Iona is set to red and keeps them from attacking most of the time) - Forbidden Orchard (keep the spirit tokens equal on both sides and Oath won't go off) - Greater Gargadon (sac all those spirit tokens) - Karakas (return Iona to hand) - Goblin Charbelcher (to have something on the field if they are shutting down my red spells, can possibly kill Platinum Angel, too -- still figuring out if this one is worth it: it's inconsistent, slow, and expensive mana-wise but I have won with it) These might not help in a different deck, I don't know. Since RDW is monocolored, it's a tough matchup against Iona. And I have like no options for dealing with enchantments. But I have hardly any creatures so they have to get Forbidden Orchard out. Basically my plan is to stop Oath from going off and if it does, stop them from being able to attack. Meanwhile I am banging Lightning Bolts into their head. |

E plague naming spirit is not that bad also (and useful sometimes vs merf/elf btw)
the best one remains sadistic imo if you can resolve it before oath engine works
arent blood moon effects a good way to crash orchard effect ?? Edited by LOurs - 09 Feb 2010 at 3:55am |

Another intriguing possibility is Meekstone. Sure, they may deal 17 damage, but can they deal 20? It can land turn 1 and through Iona. Another idea is Circle of Protection: White, which nails Iona, Progenitus, and the Sphinx.

Re: Spawning Pit: You can sac all your creatures, make tokens at their end step, attack, and sac again on your turn.
Also, Qasali Pridemage. (Or, for mono-green or otherwise non-white decks, Viridian Zealot.) |

Restricting cards restricts creativity. Restrict as little as possible.

There's an argument on the Gatherer discussion page for Oath about shroud. Oath makes you choose a target player who controls more creatures than you. If the defending player had shroud through True Believer, would that stop Oath?

Yes, True Believer stops Oath of Druids activation.
