Don't forget Land Grant for Belcher decks.

Hmmm...this kind of makes me want to start buying up non-Legacy Vintage staples once Legacy comes online in anticipation of Classic becoming Vintage at some point in the future.  Also cards that are staples in both before their prices really get out of control.

What will WTOC do for the Classic players?
I know we are a small community, but we've been feeding the Classic format for a long time... I think we need some answers, and soon.

I like Legacy to play sometimes, but most of us here at Classic Quarter think about Vintage at the end of the road...

maybe the brass at wizards had the following thought process....
HMM... were about to release one of the best sets for vintage...Yawg will, Academy, smokestack, etc... Lets announce legacy! That way less people need the staples that makes the set attractive and then less people will play Urza's saga!... Yeah that'll prove we really do know what we're doing to drive sales...(team high five)

That's a great point, Darter.  At the very least they could have mentioned whether or not Vintage will be coming at some point, so that if it is coming, those people that will play it when it comes online would snap up Saga stuff early.

Totally agree with Darter.

Good thing Merfolk is a good deck in Legacy, and I've already assembled it. It may prove to be the better deck out there for the format.

Totally disagree with Darter.

The staples that legacy players need make the set MORE attractive than the staples classic players need.  Most of the cards that classic players would want (Will, Academy, Voltaic Key, Windfall, Smokestack {bad until Shop is released} are restricted so they would need to buy less Saga to get all the cards they need compared to legacy players who all need 4x of more staples (Goblin Lackey, Argothian Enchantress, Exploration, Back to Basics, Smokestack {without Shop}, Show and Tell, Gamble, Ill-Gotten Gains, Serra's Sanctum, etc).

I think the point is that if we had both Classic and Legacy, the whole gamut would be good to get.

That being said, I find the co-exitance of the two formats online unlikely, and so probably Legacy legs up Saga more than Classic.

I can't tell how happy I'm to have the Legacy online! I even restarted playing MTGO after unintentional break because of work and other engagements... Now If we'd have the Vintage too...

I'm going to say this once.
I think WotC is pretty damn smart when it comes to driving the demand for the game (but don't get me started on other business decisions they make).
As evidence I offer the fact that Magic is still here after 15 years.
Now, if you think about it logically, wouldn't it be smart to launch Legacy when it was the primary eternal format, since legacy has the largest of the Eternal player bases? And to launch it at a time when it will mostly sync up with paper?

Then after things settled down, maybe launch Vintage, which has a smaller player base. And launch it when it's also ready to sync up with paper?
Odissey was themed with with threshold and Mudhole gave red access to an hability that fitted thematically and normally isn't on it's pie, that's why it's rare.

Funny story, last nite i am in tp room. I spotted Tom L. looking to join a Classic game!
Every game up was labeled Legacy, he tried to join w/o reading descriptions playing Yawg's, Tutors and Necro, poor guy couldn't get a Classic all nite.

Play Classic in CasCas but put a message on your table asking for tier 1 decks?

I used to habitually do that because TP wait time was often 10 minutes or more even when online Legacy was unheard of (I'm in GMT timezone). In CasCas you'll get a game within a minute and 3 times out of 5 they will actually read you rmessage and bring a tier 1 deck. ;P

Cool story, bro!

Unfortunately, I don't think Tom L. has any say for MTGO product release schedule - just working on the new sets with R&D.

It's a shame that the management is so hierarchical at WotC and not meshed around.

Tom L and Erik L pretty much built MED3.  Pretty sure he's on the MED4 team too
